7-Eleven serves no purpose in the East Village

There are three bodegas within a block’s distance of the new 7-Eleven, a fourth bodega one avenue to the east and a fifth bodega one avenue to the west. There are 17 bodegas in our 10003 zip code and 25 bodegas in the neighboring 10009 zip code. There is no need for 7-Eleven here despite their claims we are “under-served.”

The easiest thing you can do! Shop at a bodega, a deli, a coffee shop, a grocery store – any place but a 7-Eleven!

BOYCOTT 7-ELEVEN RALLY TONIGHT

7-Eleven New YorkIn case you missed it the new 7-Eleven blew into town over night. Today, 7-Eleven violated several Partial Stop Work Orders by removing the plywood exterior and installing one eye-sore of a sign.

Margaret Chabris, 7-Eleven’s spokesperson, said 7-Eleven has a “special downtown, urban format for our stores that lends itself to Manhattan.” They apparently left it in Texas! They also damaged residents’ apartments, created a crime-friendly exterior and installed 3 industrial AC units in a narrow alley 14 INCHES FROM THE RESIDENTS BEDROOM WINDOWS.

Then tonight, as streets are full of kids and parents trick or treating and almost every store has people handing out candy, a neighbor walks by the new 7-Eleven, which has about 7-8 employees inside. They see a kid walk out with a bag of candy and when asked what he got, he said, “Nuthin.'” Yes, the mecca of junk food doesn’t even give out candy on Halloween.

Let’s give 7-Eleven the warm welcome they deserve with a rally this evening at 9PM sharp at 11th Street and Avenue A. Bring a friend, be LOUD, and let these Texas-based human traffickers know they are not wanted nor needed in our neighborhood!

A big thank you to all the people who came out to support the BOYCOTT 7-ELEVEN RALLY this afternoon. We distributed several hundred fliers to neighbors asking them to boycott 7-Eleven because:

7-Eleven is a Corporate Invader

There are three bodegas within a block’s distance of the new 7-Eleven, a fourth bodega one avenue to the east and a fifth bodega one avenue to the west. There are 17 bodegas in our 10003 zip code and 25 bodegas in the neighboring 10009 zip code. There is no need for 7-Eleven here despite their claims we are “under-served.”

7-Eleven is a Human Trafficker

This summer the Federal authorities seized 14 7-Eleven convenience stores on the East Coast and five houses in New York worth more than $1.3 million, making the case the largest criminal immigration forfeiture in Department of Homeland Security history, according to federal and state officials.

The eight men and one woman charged in the scheme ran 7-Elevens in New York and Virginia, according to two indictments unsealed on Monday.

“These defendants ruthlessly exploited their immigrant employees, stealing their wages and requiring them to live in unregulated boarding houses, in effect creating a modern day plantation system,” said Loretta Lynch, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New York, in a statement released with Homeland Security and the Social Security Administration as well as state and local police.

More than 50 illegal immigrants were overworked and cheated out of their wages, the authorities said. Because they were illegally in the country, the victims may have been afraid to report possible wrongdoing, they added. Reuters.

7-Eleven is Small Business Owner’s Worst Nightmare

7-Eleven micro-manages franchisees to death, which makes their claims of ignorance to the human trafficking scandal hard to believe. 7-Eleven will raid the franchisee’s stores if they don’t like the merchandise. 7-Eleven is being sued by their franchisees who claim the deal is an employment scam and they’re really buying are low-paying jobs with no equity, no benefits, no overtime and a dishonest, abusive boss.  Did we mention the average start-up cost for a 7-Eleven franchise is $30,800 – $1,500,000.

7-Eleven is a Above The Law

Despite SEVERAL Partial Stop-Work Orders issued by the NYC DOB, 7-Eleven brazenly continued on with the construction of their East Village location.

7-Eleven is a Bad Neighbor

During the construction of the new 7-Eleven in the East Village apartments were broken into, structural walls were cracked and AC units were installed 14 inches from residents windows, racking up the previously mentioned Stop Work Orders. At one point the construction site fell into such a state of disrepair it was called a “neighborhood disgrace.” It’s also worth noting that during Superstorm Sandy, ALL downtown 7-Elevens remained closed while local businesses attempted to stay open and help their neighbors.

7-Eleven is a Crime Magnet

A quick Google News search demonstrates 7-Eleven is synonymous with crime. Recently one location was robbed THREE TIMES IN TWO DAYS. WTF?! Do we need this?

These are not our values! PLEASE don’t support this awful chain. Boycott ALL New York City 7-Elevens!
